A small rocky island on Lake Superior in northwestern Ontario, Silver Islet literally became the jewel of Ontario when a rich vein of pure silver was discovered on the island during the mid-1800s. A mine was built on the island, but was flooded in 1884 and has never been reopened. Legend has it there is still much silver to be found on the island. This 3 1/4” smooth solid birch has a sharp gray color inspired by that legend.
