In 1889, the usually calm sound of the American prairie was disrupted by the blast of several cannons. The sound marked the start of a great land grab in Guthrie, Oklahoma and the population of this little railroad station grew 10,000 people in six hours. Guthrie prospered until it was eventually eclipsed by Oklahoma City. Because of that, much of its original Victorian architecture is still in place, another thing that makes it unique among its fellow Oklahoma cities.
